Thinking of Buying an E-Scooter for Christmas? Read This First!
Considering buying an e-scooter as a Christmas present this year? Make sure you know the law before you buy. Many e-scooters sold online and in shops look like a great gift, but most privately owned e-scooters cannot be legally used on public roads, pavements, cycle paths or other public places.
If used in public, a privately owned e-scooter may result in: - Seizure of the e-scooter by police. - Fixed penalty notices. - Points on a driving licence. - Prosecution for offences such as no insurance or driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
Where can they be used? - On private land, with the landowner's permission. - Some areas operate approved rental e-scooter schemes, which must be used in accordance with local rules - This does not apply to Staffordshire
Before spending money this Christmas: - Check whether the rider will be able to use the e-scooter legally. - Consider alternative gifts such as bicycles, scooters or other outdoor equipment that can be used lawfully. - Talk to children and young people about the risks associated with e-scooters, especially during the darker winter months.
Don't let a Christmas gift become an expensive mistake. Do your research before buying and understand where e-scooters can and cannot be used. #ThinkBeforeYouBuy #EScooterSafety #ChristmasPrevention #RoadSafety #StaffordshirePolice | ||
